Citizenship

At Bishopshalt the Citizenship and PSHE programme aims to promote the moral, cultural, mental and physical development of each pupil as an individual at Bishopshalt School. It prepares the pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life and enables them to develop as citizens.

All pupils throughout the school have Citizenship for one hour every two weeks, taught by their Form Tutor.

In addition to these specific lessons, many of the issues involved are cross curricular in nature and will also be covered in other subject areas. The teaching of Citizenship is approached through four overlapping themes:

·         Personal and Social (myself and others)
·         Keeping Healthy
·         Citizenship
·         Careers

In addition to these topics, students in Year 10 & 11 study for the AQA certificate "Preparation for Working Life"  in which a pass is equivalent to a half GCSE.
