Science

The Science Department currently has eleven Science teachers who are superbly supported by three laboratory technicians, two part-time technicians and two further part-time Sixth Form technicians. The Science Block has eight large recently refurbished laboratories and one room suitable for smaller classes, for example some of our AS/A level groups.

At Key Stage 3 all students follow the GO! Science course, based on the QCA Scheme of Work. This is an up-to-date, practical-based course which makes use of a wide range of learning styles. Students learn the scientific skills required to plan, carry out and analyse the results of experiments, which can then be used as students continue their studies.

At both AS and A level, we offer Biology, Chemistry and Physics courses, all taught by specialist teachers. Typically we
have about 40 Biology AS students, 40 AS Chemistry students and 20 AS Physics students. At A level there are
typically 30 students in Biology, 30 students in Chemistry and 12 students in Physics. Most of these students continue
their education at University, including some of the most competitive courses at high-ranking Universities.

The Department is also pleased to offer extra-curricular opportunities to students through the Animal House, Science
Clubs and Science Week activities. There are also a number of visits organised which enhance the learning of science
and in some instances fulfil the requirements of a course by doing field trips.
