Bishopshalt School - COVID-19 Update

Important information regarding partial school closure

Dear Parents & Carers

Regrettably, I am informing you that it will be necessary to partially close the school to some year groups due to the impacts of the COVID-19 virus and staff requiring to socially distance themselves for their own health or that of their immediate family.  I would like to make clear that at this stage none of our staff members or students have any formal diagnosis of the virus.

From lunchtime today, Wednesday 18th March, all Year 12 students will be sent home from school.  From Thursday 19th March Year 9 and 10 students will not be required to attend school for the foreseeable future.

At the moment, Year 7, 8, 11 and 13 students will be required to attend school  tomorrow and Friday. We will be operating as normal timetable as possible for these students.  If you are a frontline worker and have advised the school of this and you cannot secure alternative child care provision for students in Year 9 and 10 please email and we will seek to make arrangements for them to attend school.   At this point in time we cannot advise you as to whether the school will be operating next week, we will continue to keep you appraised of the situation and will email and text any decisions at the earliest opportunity.

Unless they are unwell, students will be expected to continue their studies by following their daily structure, working from 9:00am, following their timetable through to 3:20pm each day, as their teachers will be setting work via Show My Homework and Google Classroom. If your child does not know their Googlemail details, please email our IT Manager, and he will reset this for you and send details.

We would like to reiterate that this is a period of social isolation as directed by Government advice, students should not be out on the streets socialising with groups of friends etc.  Any reports of incidents involving our students will be treated as a infringements of our behaviour policy and dealt with when school reopens.

A letter will be emailed and posted home later today and we ask that you regularly check our school website for regular updates, in the near future a designated webpage will go live to enable you to check for important study information, contact details and other useful links.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation in these unprecedented times.

Mr McGillicuddy, Headteacher
