School Closure from Friday 20th March 2020
COVID - 19 Update Thursday 19th March 2020
At 5.15pm on Wednesday 18th March, the Secretary of State for Education gave a public statement that all state-funded schools in England would be closed from the end of the school day on Friday 20th March.
He also indicated that all the GCSE, and A-level examinations due to take place this Summer, have been suspended; and that students would be credited for their learning in some other way.
Having indicated that all schools would be closed, he then indicated that they would be expected to remain open for the children of key workers and for those in various vulnerable categories such as Looked After, EHCP. This will be providing a safe place and access to meals. We are expecting a definition of ‘key worker’ tomorrow from the Cabinet Office. It will take time to determine the nature of this provision, however, we will be open for vulnerable and key worker students and will contact these groups directly with details and further information.
We have previously notified you that all students will be provided with work from their subject teachers via Show My Homework and Google Classroom on a daily basis. We ask that you commit to monitoring that they are completing this work on a daily basis. We will be developing a reporting system to enable us to provide you with your children’s progress during this time.
For today and Friday 20th March, pupil attendance In Years 7, 8, 11 and 13 should continue as normal within the COVID-19 Public Health England guidance. On Friday 20th March, we will be closing at 1:00pm to enable our staff to plan their delivery of online lessons.
We ask you to please send 7/8/11/13 students in on Friday 20th, as we will be providing them with additional work and information which is currently being prepared.
Thank you for your support and for your patience in the meantime.
L McGillicuddy (Mr)
