Drama and Theatre Studies
The Drama Department at Bishopshalt is a lively, diverse and extremely busy area of the school that has at its core the enthusiasm and commitment of its staff and students as its central strength.
Drama plays a very important role at Bishopshalt School. Within the Drama classroom students learn skills that will help their development in all walks of life. Students in KS3 have an hour of Drama per week where they explore a wide range of topics whilst improving key skills such as collaboration, creativity and problem solving.
At KS4 and 5, the department consistently achieves above the national average in examinations. At GCSE the students move forward in their study of practitioners and performance styles, whilst focusing on devising their own plays and studying scripts ready for performance. In Sixth Form the subject is a vibrant and busy area, which is heavily subscribed in both year 12 and 13. At both GCSE and A-Level, students can make the most of opportunities to see West End shows and live theatre performances for a reduced cost.
We offer a busy schedule of performances under the umbrella of the Drama Department, with a full curricular calendar and many extra curricular opportunities existing for students of all ages.
As well as offering Drama to every student at the school, we are also very proud of our successes in placing students at nationally recognised drama and dance schools, and have in place a strong mentoring system for students who are looking to continue their studies into the professional world.
