KS4 GCSE Vocational Programme


The Vocational GCSE Programme are  separate courses for pupils who are interested in a range of subjects that are more vocationally based, and who may need a higher degree of individual support with their Key Stage 4 studies. Places on these courses are limited, and pupils who are accepted will be interviewed and given guidance to choose options that are appropriate to them, bearing in mind their current interests, and aspirations for the future. 

 
The choices are as follows:
 
Construction Course
 
Details:                      
The Construction Course is now in its second year of offer and is provided through Hillingdon Training with specialist provision at Abbotsfield School. You will cover aspects such as plastering, bricklaying, plumbing, electrical work amongst others. The qualification is level 1 to level 2. For further details it is essential that you attend the talk given by Kevin Voisey at options evening.

Duration:                     Two years
 
Time out of school:   Two half days per week

Uxbridge College Vocational Preparation Courses
 
Details:                                  
Uxbridge College offers a range of vocational courses for 14-16 year olds. These are aimed towards students who are working at Level 1 and may want to study a reduced number of GCSE courses. Courses that may be offered this year   subject to numbers are as follows:-

Location:                                Uxbridge Campus / Hayes Campus
 
Time out of school:              ½ day per week (you will miss some timetabled lessons)
 
Duration:                               1 & 2 year courses (depending on course)
 
Places available:                  10 places overall, limited places for popular courses

Single Science Course/Learning Intervention
 
Details:                                  
Some students, according to ability, will study a Single Science course during Years 10 & 11, rather than the BTEC  Science, or, Double Science courses. This will free up 5 lessons on the timetable for them to have 5 Learning Intervention lessons.
 
  •  Learning Intervention will provide additional time within the curriculum for students to complete supported coursework and homework activities, and to improve basic skills.
 
  • Places will be allocated according to progress in Science, but, additional places could be made available by agreement, where students may benefit from a reduced GCSE Curriculum.

English Entry Level Certificate Course
 
Details:                                  
Some students, according to ability, will study an English Entry Level Certificate Course in Years 10 & 11, rather than the full GCSE English Course. 
 
  •  Places will be allocated according to progress in English.
