“The limits of my language stand for the limits of my world” (Ludwig Wittgenstein). At Bishopshalt, we place a strong emphasis on developing our pupils’ skills in reading, writing and spoken language. We follow the new KS3 English National Curriculum. Pupils encounter a wide range of literature and enjoy the several competitions and extra-curricular clubs we offer including the Hillingdon Book of the Year, Spelling Bee’s and Drama club. We have had a range of popular writers come and speak to our pupils including Benjamin Zephaniah, Anthony Horowitz and David Walliams and over 200 of our pupils have had their work published by Young Writers. Nurturing a love for reading is something we encourage through our DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) scheme and Independent Projects where pupils work towards winning Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. |
