Year 6 Transition

September 2020 Admissions

Video:  Meet the Y7 Team

Dear Parents and Carers,

If your child has been offered a place at Bishopshalt School for September 2020, you will have received a
transition pack, in this transition pack you will find two booklets. The Orange Booklet contains a series of very important data collection forms, school policies and consent forms and it must be completed in full and returned to Bishopshalt School by Friday 10th July at the very latest. The White Booklet is for you to keep and contains useful information regarding your child’s transition to secondary school.

Under normal circumstances we would visit your child at their primary school in June, unfortunately this has not been possible this year. Please rest assured however, that we have now been in touch with all 30 of our feeder primary schools and have had individual conversations about every single child joining us in September.

As you are undoubtedly aware, Year 6 students who are due to be joining us in September usually spend a day at Bishopshalt School in July. This is known as ‘Transition Day’ and allows them to get to know the school and key staff before they formally start, it also provides us with an opportunity to talk to parents and carers. Unfortunately, for everyone’s safety, this year the borough-wide Transition Day is unable to go ahead as planned .  Instead, we had hoped to be able to run a series of 2 hour transition sessions over the course of a week, allowing us to welcome small groups of students into the school whilst maintaining social distancing, however government guidelines pertaining to the specific groups of students who are allowed on our school site unfortunately mean that we will be unable to proceed with these sessions.

In place of the planned transition sessions we are in the process of creating four transition videos for parents, carers and students, as well as some virtual taster lessons. We hope that this 'virtual' transition will go some way towards answering your questions, easing anxieties and helping you to prepare your child for September.

Our first video, 'Meet the Year 7 Team' is ready for you to watch now.  Please keep checking back as we continue to post further transition videos throughout June and July. Still to come:

  • Presentation for parents and carers

  • Virtual tour of the school

  • Welcome to the SEN department

  • Virtual Taster Lessons

We anticipate that our Year 7 Induction Day will take place on Wednesday 2nd September, however the safety of all of our students, including our new Year 7 pupils, is our highest priority and it goes without saying that we will continue to closely monitor the latest government and scientific guidance before confirming the details of Induction Day. We hope to be able to provide further details by mid August and ask that you continue to check our website for the most up to date information.

If there are any queries or any other matters you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to contact the school. Likewise, if there are any significant home circumstances that you think may affect your child's schooling, please get in touch to discuss the situation in confidence.

We will continue to keep you updated and very much look forward to meeting you and your child as soon as it is safe to do so.

Kind regards,

Mrs Denial
