Year 6 Transition - Sept 2023 Entry
Key Dates
June 2023
Over the next few weeks we will be speaking to the Year 6 teachers at all of our feeder primary schools so that we can find out all about the group of students who will be joining the Bishopshalt community from September 2023. We will also be making visits to some of our larger feeder primary schools and meeting the students in person. During these visits we will be handing out ‘Transition Packs’ which contain important information and an orange booklet for you to fill in and return to us. If we are not able to visit your child’s primary school, this will be posted to your home address.
Tuesday 4 July 2023 - Hillingdon Transition Day: Registration from 9.15am
All Year 6 pupils in Hillingdon visit their new Secondary Schools on this date. They should be accompanied by their parents, as there will be a meeting giving further information about the transition process. We ask that the students and a parent or carer arrive between 9.15 am and 9.35 am, so that we can register your child and start promptly at 9.45 am. It is incredibly important that parents and carers remain with us for the first part of the morning as we will be providing you with important information and advice to help your child prepare for the start of term in September. It is anticipated that the meeting for parents will end at approximately 10.50am, when your child's Head of Year, our SENCo and myself will be available for informal discussions, should you have any questions.
Please ensure that you bring the orange booklet with you on this day. Failure to fully complete this booklet, or to return it on time, will be detrimental to your child’s smooth transition from primary to secondary school.
Over the course of the day the students will get to meet, their Head of Year, and other key members of staff. They will spend a significant amount of time getting to know their Form Tutor and the other members of their class as well as experiencing some Key Stage 3 taster lessons. They will also be given a tour of the school, find out what life at Bishopshalt is like and get the chance to ask any questions or discuss anxieties they may have.
Your child should wear their primary school uniform and should ensure that they bring a pen, pencil and notepad, as well as a bottle of water. All pupils will be provided with lunch free of charge in the school canteen, however they may bring a packed lunch if they would prefer to.
You can return and collect your child at 3.05 pm. Pupils will also be allowed to make their own way home, if you are happy for them to do so. Please be aware that there will be no onsite parking and that unfortunately, we cannot accommodate younger siblings.
Key things to remember for Transition Day:
- Arrive between 9.15 and 9.35am
- Wear primary school uniform.
- Orange booklet
- Pen, pencil and notepad
- A bottle of water to drink
- Lunch will be provided, free of charge, but you may bring a packed lunch if you wish
Year 7 Induction Day – Monday 4th September 2023
Please note that Year 7 students will have an Induction Day on Monday 4th September. This is so that they can prepare for the new term and further familiarise themselves with the school before the rest of the students return. We expect all of our new Year 7 students to attend on this day. We ask that the pupils and a parent or carer arrive between 9.15am and 9.35am. Parents and carers will need to stay until approximately 10.45am. Further information about Induction day will be provided on Transition Day.
The Year Ahead: Parents Information Evening and Social Event - Thursday 7 September 2023
The Year Ahead Evening will take place from 4.30pm until 6.30pm. We ask that the pupils and one parent or carer arrive between 4.15pm and 4.25pm in order to allow us to start promptly. The evening will be split into two separate sections. The first half will take place in the main hall and will be our final opportunity to disseminate important information to pupils, parents and carers. Following this presentation we invite you and your child to join us in the Mansion Gardens for some light refreshments and the opportunity to meet other Year 7 pupils and their parents. Form Tutors, our SENCO and other key members of the Year 7 team will also be available, should you wish to talk to them.
