Student Leadership Team

Bishopshalt’s Student Leadership Team plays a central role in school life and acts as a visible group of ambassadors and role models for the wider student body. Our student leaders demonstrate responsibility, initiative, and a strong commitment to the school’s values, setting high standards in conduct, contribution, and service.

The leadership structure is fronted by the Year 13 Head Students and Deputy Head Students, who are elected through a whole-school voting process. Supporting them is a team of Senior Prefects and Prefects, all of whom are appointed following a robust and competitive recruitment process. This process includes a written application, a goldfish bowl discussion, group tasks, a formal presentation, and a mock election campaign. Year 12 students are encouraged to begin developing their leadership profiles from the moment they join the Sixth Form in September by volunteering across the school community. Applications and final selections take place during the Spring Term.

As part of Bishopshalt’s commitment to developing leadership in every student, all Year 12 students complete the SSAT Student Leadership Accreditation, with many achieving the Gold Award. Students evidence their leadership through a wide range of meaningful responsibilities, including:

  • Acting as Learning Support Assistants in KS4 lessons

  • Serving as one-to-one academic mentors for KS4 students

  • Leading and running weekly KS3 lunchtime clubs through their societies

  • Undertaking whole-school lunchtime duties

  • Supporting after-school events, including welcoming parents and visitors

In addition, Year 12 students take collective responsibility for the design and delivery of Bishopshalt’s annual Culture Day. This student-led event celebrates diversity and global awareness, culminating in a cultural showcase and fashion show, alongside a cultural fair and interactive workshops.

Each Prefect is assigned to champion one of the school’s core values, such as Chase Brilliance, working in teams led by Senior Prefects to embed these values across the school community.

Through these experiences, Bishopshalt students develop confidence, resilience, communication skills, and a strong sense of service. Our students leave Bishopshalt as capable, reflective, and impactful leaders, ready to succeed in higher education and beyond.
