Success for Bishophalt's Teenage Entrepreneurs
Back
Last week, our students were in the Houses of Parliament to impress celebrities and minsters judging the Young Enterprise's company's programme.
The company's programme sees secondary school students come up with an idea, create a product and run a real student business. Bishopshalt was part of a group of 20 students from 3 London schools who showed off their ideas to celebrities, ministers and judges including BBC The Apprentice UK star Tim Campbell, award-winning broadcaster and journalist Steph McGovern and Minister for Small Business and Economic Transformation Blair McDougall MP. The event was also featured in The Times on Friday 6 February (you can read the article below)
Bishopshalt entered two teams in to the competition. Alaesa Luxuries, which makes jewellery and accessories from bismuth crystals and GoFigr, a business making marine-themed desk pets and fidget toys from sustainable biodegradable plastic. We are delighted and very proud to announce that one of our teams, GoFigr, were the winners.
The winning team successfully manufactured 73 toys, selling 70 of them at Portobello market and at school with a total profit of £350. Gurkaram RS took on the role of chief executive for GoFigr, pitching the idea to the judges without a hint of nervousness and even making Tim Campbell, the first winner of The Apprentice, laugh. Gurkaram said that, following the win, the company is hoping to expand its product range. “Young Enterprise really utilises skills that you already have,” he said. “It gives you certain new skills, but it refines the old ones."
Congratulations to both our teams on their success and thanks to Mr Ahmed for his hard work with this initiative.
